What to Expect From Your TMS Consultation

This article describes what a typical consultation may look like with Kumud Khanal, our TMS and clinical coordinator.

Every visit is individualized and may be different depending on your situation. It is not a guarantee that TMS will be recommended or started, and there are no guarantees of outcomes.

You are also encouraged, if you feel comfortable, to bring a loved one or support person to the visit. A familiar person can help you remember information, ask questions, and think through options later.

During the consultation, Kumud will review:

  • When TMS may be helpful, and what other strategies exist
  • Any medical issues or devices that might make TMS unsafe?
  • Contraindications and potential side effects
  • Practical details like how often sessions happen, how long they last, and what treatments usually feel like
  • How TMS can be included in your daily schedule in a way that supports your life rather than disrupts it, so you can keep your routines as much as possible

We will talk together about how to fit sessions around work, family, and other responsibilities, and how to use this time to support progress and help you stay an active participant in your own healing process, not just someone a treatment is “done to.”

You are encouraged to ask questions at any time. TMS procedure and strategy will be finally prescribed by Dr. Ghelber after a thorough evaluation and discussion with you. Together, you and Dr. Ghelber will decide whether this is the right option.

We will make sure that your questions and concerns are addressed to the best of our abilities. The goal of this consultation is not to pressure you, but to give you clear, honest information so you can make the best decision for yourself.
