After initial approval for eye muscle disorders in 1989, Botulinum Toxin use exploded for of cosmetic and medical indications.
In a recent (2020) survey of forty thousand Botulinum Toxin treatments, it was concluded that patients receiving Botulinum Toxin for a variety of indications had a significantly lower incidence of depressive episodes than a control group. Furthermore, it appears that Botulinum Toxin may be an effective antidepressant in both Major Depressive Disorder and Bipolar Depression(Finzi et al, 2018).
The antidepressant effect may outlast the cosmetic effect of the Botulinum Toxin( Magid et al, 2014). We are excited to offer forehead injections of Botulinum Toxin for mitigating the symptoms of depression. For more information please contact our office.
